Daft for Daffodils...
Introducing the second card in our new Language of Flowers collection...
Thought to originate from the Old English word ‘affodyle’ meaning ‘that which comes early’, Daffodils are the birth flower of March, and are traditionally given on a 10th wedding anniversary. Its botanical name Narcissus derives from the Greek ‘narke’, meaning numbness or torpor, pertaining to its narcotic properties. Symbolising rebirth and new beginnings, Daffodils herald the arrival of Spring. The national symbol of Wales, in China, daffodils represent good fortune and prosperity, whilst in Japan, they express joy and mirth. In France, they are symbols of hope, and in the Middle East, they were believed to be an aphrodisiac.
