Bugle
Feeling a bit overwhelmed by everything this morning, I sent myself out into the meadow in search of a new specimen for scribbling before sitting down at my desk. I found this, with its unusual spires of pretty lilac flowers on dark purple stems poking through the grass by the hedge, but had no idea what it was. Thanks to Joshua Sparkes, one of the gardeners responsible for recreating Vita's meadows at Sissinghurst, I have since discovered it's called Bugle (Ajuga reptans) #inthemeadow
