You Are What You Give (Mother's Day Edition) with Rachel Bakewell

Our next guest in this beloved interview series is Fashion Stylist, Editor and Creative Consultant, Rachel Bakewell. Renowned for her romantic, otherworldly aesthetic, she has worked with many of the industry’s top photographers for publications including British Vogue, the Violet Book and Unpolished, and has styled campaigns for revered brands including Erdem and Barbour. She dresses artist Faye Wei Wei, and poet Greta Bellamacina, among a host of other globally renowned actors, singers and creatives. As you might expect, she is an extraordinarily stylish mother to two young girls, and has kindly agreed to be our guest for Mother’s Day...
Rachel, please tell us the best present you remember being given as a child?
A huge, tall box of vintage dressing up clothes - 40s, 50s, 60s dresses, and pearls, and hats with feathers... I adored it and it started my fascination with clothes and characters.
Please share a present idea or two that you love to give to new babies or young children?
I love to give a new baby a beautiful outfit, or bonnet and ribbed tights. I often shop at la Coqueta for new babies. I also love to find beautiful vintage pieces for close friends.
What would you say is the best thing about being a mother? And the hardest?
The best thing is the unconditional love I feel, and the wonder of watching them grow. The hardest I would say is the balance between working & motherhood.
